It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Geneva County as Assistant District Attorney for the past seven years. As Assistant District Attorney, I have prosecuted hundreds of cases in District Court and Circuit Court in Geneva and Dale Counties. I have been privileged to work with law enforcement throughout Geneva County and have tried to make Geneva County a better and safer place to live. My father, Jack W. Smith, taught me that serving the public is a great honor and I have tried to make him proud with the work I have done for this community. I have decided to place my name into consideration for greater service to Geneva County and humbly announce that I have qualified to run as the Republican candidate for District Judge for Geneva County. Prior to joining the District Attorney’s Office, I spent seven years in private practice handling all types of civil cases including domestic relations, bankruptcy, Social Security Disability, personal injury and workers’ compensation. As a law clerk for the Court of Criminal Appeals in Montgomery, I assisted with writing judicial opinions and performed research for the Presiding Judge from the fall of 1995 until going into private practice in 1996. I received my law degree from the University Of Alabama School Of Law in 1995 and graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.A. in 1991. I grew up in Geneva and graduated from Geneva High School in 1987. I am an Army veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2006-2007) and Operation Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom (2002). My civic and community involvement includes being a member of the Rotary Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars – Slocomb Post, Gideons International, the National Guard Association of the United States, Lifetime Member of the National Rifle Association, Alabama Republican Party, Geneva County Republican Party and the Association of the United States Army.
